HR Q&A

I'm being asked to move from Asia to the global headquarters in the United States to take up a Global HR Business Partner role. How should I optimise this move from a career standpoint?
Answer:
This is a great career development opportunity. To maximise your potential, you should ensure that the assignment length is agreed up front and that the next step beyond the current assignment is discussed. This can be returning to your home country after the assignment, or moving on to another location perhaps elsewhere in Asia or internationally. It is important to understand the career trajectory that the company has you on, rather than just taking it one step at a time. Be sure that your personal obligations are taken care of, particularly with respect to taxation, and also think about the education cost of your children abroad.
