I'm based in India in a senior HR position and am keen to move to Singapore, as my family and friends are there. What considerations should I have to maximise my chances of securing the right position?
Answer:
There is a strong base of Indian HR talent based in Singapore. These individuals are a mixture of international assignees, people who have chosen to come to Singapore to work, and trailing spouses. In order to get your foot in the door, it is important to adapt the relevant details of your India HR experience to the local market. Keep realistic with your salary expectations, at least for your first role, as many people price themselves out. Fly to Singapore for a face-to-face visit with potential companies or head-hunters to demonstrate your keenness. Be patient and allow 12 months for relationships to yield results. Exhaust every option to transfer with your existing company, as this is by far the easiest option. Gain ideas from other Indian HR practitioners who have successfully cracked the HR job market in Singapore. Good luck!
