I am looking to hire HR talent from outside Asia into the region, but I want them on local terms. How should I find HR talent who will be comfortable moving here on non-expatriate terms?
Answer:
It is best to concentrate on people who want to be in the region. Previous assignees who have returned to their home country outside Asia and who have kept up their relationships in the region may, for example, be open-minded to return on local terms. HR talent in international markets who see Asia as an important place to gain career experience could also be open-minded. Typically, HR talent will want expatriate terms when they feel it is a hardship positing – for instance if they feel it is more expensive than 'home' or if there are concens about a comparitively lower quality of life. These individuals are best avoided, as their financial expectations can be unrealistic and uncompetitive with locally-based HR talent.
