- How often do you see global HR roles based out of locations like Singapore, Hong Kong, China or Australia?
- Answer:
- Most of the global HR roles available in Singapore, Hong Kong and China are with the local conglomerates. The same can be said for Australia, which is home arguably the most 'international' global roles in the region in terms of HR sophistication. These roles will often involve a significant focus on the home market plus the Asia Pacific Japan region, and then perhaps a small to medium focus outside of the region. A few multinational organisations have started to base global HR business partner roles in Singapore or Hong Kong, which is very encouraging. We would like to imagine that as countries like China and India continue to become more prominent on the world stage it could make sense to decentralise some key HR positions from global headquarters and place them in Asia. However, we are only witnessing the very beginning of this trend and for now global HR roles make up only a very small proportion of HR roles in the Asia Pacific Japan region.
