If I am returning to my home country for an HR role after being outside of the country on an international assignment. How do I make sure this doesn’t damage my HR career?
Answer:
Look for a company, an HR leader and a business leader (or leaders) who will value your international perspective. Ideally the company may hire you to do a ‘home’ assignment with the view to moving you internationally again, so you don’t lose your international edge. Be upfront on whether you expect special concessions to return home, which you should be aware could detract from your marketability for the position if it means you become expensive (versus other talent in the market).
