VIEWER QUESTION - I'm based in Shanghai as an Asia Pacific HR Business Partner and am being approached about moving into a Greater China HR Director role. Is this a logical move?
Answer:
There’s no one-size-fits-all answer to that question, as It depends on your previous experience. If you have performed an Asia Pacific role and a country role previously, it might be advantageous to do a Greater China role to broaden your career experience. If your Asia Pacific experience has been with a smaller company, it could also make logical sense to try a Greater China role with a larger company. Often folks sitting in Asia Pacific Business Partner roles function in a sole contributor capacity. Moving into a Greater China role, which will often involve leadership responsibility for the HR counterparts in the sub-region, and again this can be a good way of enhancing your career experience.
