- Why do HR job interviews in Asia often involve so many steps?
- Answer:
Many multinational organisations in Asia have matrix reporting structures which can be complicated. For instance, if you're interviewing for an Asia Pacific VP HR position, you may need to interview with the Asia Pacific Head of Executive Recruitment, the Global HR Director, the Global Talent Head, several business heads in Asia Pacific and even some of your potential direct reports. You may even have to interview with the current incumbent.
The reason for this is many HR positions involve many interrelationships within the company, so often its a case of all these parties having a say in the hiring of the new person. Smart companies though will make sure that one person is primarily in control of the process and help coordinate and brief the candidate so that they don't get lost in the process.
