GUEST EXPERT - Sandy Ng: As a Resourcing Head in the hospitality sector, what would characterise as the unique aspects of your role versus an equivalent role in other industry sectors?
Answer:

Sandy Ng
Director, Talent Resourcing
Intercontinental Hotels Group
Based in Singapore

My 10 years of Resourcing experience in headhunting and blue chip companies like Hewlett-Packard and Tellabs did not prepare me for the Hospitality industry! While the basic ingredient for good Resourcing personnel is a keen interest in people and their career development, the hospitality industry demands more.

First off, due to rapid growth in the last few years, our Resourcing strategies had to be especially creative and innovative to attract the best talent in local markets. The candidate experience is critical to this. Compared to other industries in which I had worked, I found that focusing on candidate experience in this industry has lead to long-term success in attracting talent and building our organisation's reputation.

Similarly, we spend a significant amount of time driving employee engagement to retain our people once they've been hired, which has lead to greater success for the organisation as a whole. Employee surveys are done twice a year, and are followed with action plans to address areas for improvement. In a people driven industry, the way we work is very much governed by our ‘Winning Ways'; doing the right thing, showing we care, aiming higher, celebrating differences and working better together.
