GUEST EXPERT - Alec Bashinsky: What would you say are the attributes that make an HR leader successful in a professional services environment in Australia?
Answer:

Alec Bashinsky
National Partner, People & Performance, Australia
Deloitte
Based in Sydney

To succeed as an HR Leader in Australia's Professional Services environment you need to focus on preparedness rather than prediction. Today's HR leader needs to focus on a number of business scenarios whilst continuing to deliver advice and support to the business in driving revenue and lifting the performance bar for all employees.

At the same time they need to be prepared and agile to flex with whatever business conditions come their way. Today's environment is 'still' about chasing the right talent regardless of economic conditions (replacing the average with highly talented candidates) as well as helping business units with effective labour utilisation and/or redeployment or reduction. Critically it's about having a plan and executing effectively rather than knee jerk reactions to market changes.
