How will a Regional Learning and Development role be structured within a bank in Singapore?
Answer:
A Regional Learning and Development lead role within a Bank in Singapore will (depending on the size of the bank) have a regional team generally sitting in the same location, as then be backed up by in-country L&D professionals in the various countries. The definition of what falls under the L&D team will depend on the investment in these activities by the bank. Some development teams in banking will focus more heavily on training curriculum development and delivery. Other teams will focus on these, plus talent development activities like succession planning, talent identification and management, pipeline planning and leadership development. Some banks may split the more transaction ‘learning’ functions from the more proactive ‘development’ functions. During recent times many banks have sharply cut back on L&D programme expenditure, due to urgent cost control measures, which has been unfortunate for many Learning and Development professionals impacted by this.
