I'm based in Australia but want to move my HR career to Asia. What's the most efficient way to do this?
Answer:
Start by doing your research on which industries and positions your HR experience may best translate into. Don’t try to make any dramatic changes in what you’ve been doing in Australia. Instead, try to stick to the same sort of industry and company, as your ‘value add’ to prospective employers will be more obvious. Network with contacts known to you who have transitioned their careers to Asia and let them know your plan to move into the region – these contacts may be able to pass on leads while at the same time vouch for your credibility. Fly up to Asia and have on-the-ground meetings with selected headhunters and also directly with target companies. Try to narrow your location choice down to one or two places, so that you can use your time efficiently and build deep relationships with contacts in those locations.
