What are the challenges of a regional HR role based out Australia and why don't we see many of them?
Answer:
Australia is certainly home to regional HR roles, not just with the larger Australian multinationals but international companies too. We see most of these regional HR roles within the Technology and Life Sciences sectors in particular. The greatest challenge with in basing regional HR positions from there tends to be the further distance from major centres in Asia and Japan, when compared to the popular regional hubs of Singapore and Hong Kong. The slight time difference between Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane with the Western-most areas of Asia such as India can also slow down decision-making. This is further magnified when you consider the time difference between Australia and Europe or the US. The lack of multi-lingual language abilities across many Australian HR talent and also the lack of HR practitioners having previous regional experience, are other reasons often cited for the smaller supply of regional roles.
