Hong Kong

Hong Kong remains one of the region’s key regional locations for HR, with a sizeable number of multinationals locating their regional headquarter operations here. Hong Kong has benefited as the region’s historical gateway to China, but the city now competes for dominance in this area with the mainland business centres of Shanghai, Beijing and nearby Guangzhou. It remains one of the world’s leading financial centres, with import/export and Logistics industries also well represented. Many international Retail & Luxury brands also have a strong regional presence based out of Hong Kong. The mix of local and regional HR roles is similar to that of Singapore, its natural business competitor in the region.
The HR market in Hong Kong is international in outlook, with a fast-paced style of working. The first language of most local HR professionals is Cantonese, with English and Mandarin also commonly spoken. Hong Kong has historically been more open to expatriate talent than other parts of the region, with a contingent of long-term foreign HR leaders making Hong Kong their adopted home.
