Vietnam

In recent years, Vietnam has seen a dramatic increase in foreign investment and was admitted to the World Trade Organisation in 2007. From a strong agricultural base, Vietnam has now successfully developed into Industries such as textiles, manufacturing, and petroleum. The country is also developing Technology industrial parks and seeking out foreign investments in the high-tech industry.
Multinational companies entering Vietnam have usually transferred an international HR leader into the location. Other start-up solutions have been to develop strong Vietnamese HR operators while leave much of the strategic HR decision-making to HR teams at regional headquarter level in Singapore, Hong Kong or even Thailand. The more established multinational players with a presence in the country are now beginning to gradually entrust this decision-making back to the more senior HR practitioners in Vietnam.
HR practices in Vietnam by and large remain operational, however the high literacy base of the country means that the HR talent base should develop quickly. International Vietnamese HR talent around the world are being enticed back to Vietnam to take on country leadership HR roles and are proving to be very attractive hires.
