Malaysia

Malaysia is one of the more economically advanced nations of South East Asia, and its HR community has been developing steadily in recent years. The country has a well developed Industrial sector, with the oil and gas industry taking a prominent position. Tourism has long been a major part of the country’s economy, and the IT&T and Financial Services sectors are also gaining ground.
As other traditional centres in the region become increasingly expensive, Kuala Lumpur and Penang are being seen as viable, lower-cost locations for the regional headquarters of multinationals. However although career progression can exist into these regional HR roles, there still exists a brain drain of talented Malaysian HR professionals into neighbouring Singapore, where career opportunities and salary levels can be higher.
