Pharmaceutical & Life Sciences

This sector includes companies that operate in the fields of Pharmaceuticals, Life Sciences, Biotech, Healthcare and Medical Devices. While some companies have been experiencing a boom in recent years, others have been hit hard by lacklustre product pipelines and the rise of the generic drug manufacturers.

As a rule the pharmaceutical industry can be construed as being more conservative than most, which can mean a slower pace to business decision-making. This can on the one hand allow HR practitioners the time to strategise, but inertia to change can mean that ideas never make it to implementation.

The landscape in this sector is changing however, with smaller biotechnology outfits creating the agility to harness and commercialise new advances in science with greater speed. The few organisations in this category that have the scale for larger HR teams are now able to snap up some of the best HR talent into the market because of the perceived long-term growth prospects in the sector.
