Diversity & Inclusion

Example Job Titles
Director of Diversity, Head of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I), Chief Diversity Officer.
Overview
The relatively new field of Diversity & Inclusion (D&I) is just starting to gain a foothold across Asia Pacific Japan, where issues such as gender, race, disability and age in the workplace are no longer taboo. The specialisation seeks to create a working environment that accurately reflects the demographic mix of its customer base. This gives businesses a competitive advantage by allowing individuals from all backgrounds to contribute to a more relevant and globalised approach to decision-making within the company. It remains a field that is not well understood by the general marketplace, and many businesses have yet to see Diversity as a differentiating factor in employer branding. However as the specialisation grows, so will the need for talented professionals in this area.
Suitability Factors
As Diversity is still a new field across Asia Pacific Japan, many practitioners hired in the market come from outside Asia - particularly from Australia, the United States and Europe. Most Diversity practitioners do not begin their careers in this specialisation, but commonly move into the field from Recruitment or HR Generalist backgrounds, as well as from non-HR business backgrounds. Communication skills are vital for this role, as are programme development skills and the analytical ability to link a company's Diversity policy to its business results.
